Gemini AI in Google Classroom: The New Tools You Don’t Want to Miss!

As soon as I began testing these new Google tools, I knew I had to share them and support them. This will change how you use Google Workspace!

Why This AI Integration is Different

AI isn’t new anymore, but here’s what is: You no longer need to switch tabs, copy-paste, or bounce between tools. Gemini now lives inside Google Classroom, streamlining your planning and content creation like never before.

You can now:

Generate lesson plans, rubrics, choice boards, newsletters, and more—all in the same space you teach.
Export directly to Docs, Slides, or add assignments straight to your Classroom.
Skip the blank page and save serious time.

This isn’t about using AI just to make more things. This is about making reusable, better things that scale and save time across your entire semester.

How to Get Started

You must be on Google Workspace for Education, and your admin needs to enable Gemini for staff (it’s free for all tiers!). Once enabled:

Open Google Classroom
Click the menu (☰)
Select Gemini from the sidebar

What’s Inside Gemini for Teachers?

Currently, there are 28 AI tools built into Google Classroom’s Gemini dashboard. I fully expect this number to grow and evolve very quickly. Even as I was building resources, they added a new tool and reorganized.

Here are just a few highlights:

📄 Outline a Lesson Plan
🧠 Relevel Text for Differentiation
📊 Generate a Quiz
🗂 Build a Choice Board
🎧 Create an Audio Lesson (brand new and so cool!)
📬 Draft a Class Newsletter
🔬 Brainstorm Lab Experiments
🧭 Create a PD Plan

You can filter these tools by purpose—Planning, Instructional Materials, Assessments, Support for Students, and Administrative Tasks. And yes, these are pre-prompted, so the guesswork is gone.

Pro Tip: The “Create a Choice Board” Tool is a Must-Try

Why? Because you can:

Choose your grade level and topic
Upload instructional materials from Drive
Auto-generate learning objectives
Export to Docs or assign directly to your class

Just remember—always edit. AI gives you a draft, not perfection. But it beats staring at a blank screen every time.

Create Audio Lessons with Gemini

This might be my favorite new feature. Gemini now lets you generate podcast-style audio lessons. You provide the topic and content, and Gemini creates a conversational recording between a teacher and student. Save it to Drive and use it in your lessons—it’s that easy.

Perfect for:

Supporting auditory learners
Review stations
Flipped classrooms
