Swivl is a sweet addition to any classroom, even adult learning and professional development!
Swivl is a robotic mobile accessory that works with your mobile device or camera to record videos. The Swivl tilts and rotates to follow the presenter as he or she moves around the classroom, recording wireless video and audio with its Cloud and Capture app. Swivl then automatically uploads these recordings to its highly secure network, Swivl Cloud. Watch the video below to learn more about this fabulous little device.
I was fortunate to get my hands on a Swivl robot recently. I was very impressed with the abilities of this little gadget, and the possibilities it brings to the classroom. Swivl comes with a marker microphone that not only records great audio from several feet away, but also serves as the guide for the camera to move with the presenter. With Swivl, you also have the ability to seamlessly upload your videos to the cloud and share, collaborate, and even add your own slides. Swivl delivers a powerful suite of tools for instruction!Swivl will work with a multitude of recording devices and cameras, and will even mount to your tripod! The Swivl Capture App is compatible with both Android and iOS devices. There is also a DSLR Timelapse app, allowing you to capture time lapses with your camera. In addition, Swivl is now officially out of Beta and has introduced several new features:
- Unlimited uploading with content staging
- 2x faster uploading speeds
- Cloud exporting of produced slide+video files to your computer or YouTube.
Swivl as a Reflection Tool
At its heart, this device is a great reflection tool for any teacher or presenter. Reflection is a very important part of the learning process, but having the ability to easily record audio and video of your teaching and facilitation could greatly help any teacher reflect and improve.
Swivl as a Blended Learning Tool
Now, let’s take this a step further and think of how this device could assist with flipped and blended learning environments, and even distance learning. Swivl simplifies the recording and uploading process for teachers and stores the videos in the Swivl Cloud. Now flipping the classroom, professional development, and even faculty meetings are even easier to capture and share. I can also see how this device would work in many other blended learning models, online courses, and even distance learning.
Swivl for Capturing Student Learning
There are so many moments in the classroom I wish I had recorded! I love the idea of handing off the marker to the students and recording their interactions, collaborations, and student presentations. What a great way to capture learning!
There are so many ways that Swivl can be used. I’m excited to use it in my next academy and capture teacher presentations! Swivl even made the Shake Up Learning ULTIMATE Teacher Gift Guide, check out this fabulous list of books and gadgets for teachers!
